Whym is built with a privacy-first approach. Your decisions, timers, and personal data stay on your device. We don't have a server that stores your information, and we don't sell your data to anyone.
1. Information We Collect
Whym collects very little information, and what it does collect stays on your device.
Information you provide:
- Decisions, items, pros, cons, and labels you enter into tools
- Custom presets and saved tool states
- Impulse Stopper timer text and duration settings
- App preferences (theme, sound settings)
Information collected automatically:
- None. We do not use analytics SDKs, crash-reporting services, or any automatic data collection in the App.
2. How We Use Your Information
All information you enter into the App is used solely to provide the App's features to you, on your device. Specifically:
- Tool state and history is stored so you can return to in-progress decisions
- Presets are saved so you can reuse decision frameworks
- Timer data is used to schedule local notifications on your device
- Favourite usage data is stored locally to surface your most-used tools
We do not process, analyse, or transmit your data to any external server.
3. Data Storage
All data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This means:
- Your data is not stored on our servers — we don't have any
- If you delete the App, all data associated with it is permanently deleted from your device
- If you restore your device from an iCloud backup, your App data may be included in that backup, subject to Apple's iCloud Privacy Policy
- We do not have access to data stored in your iCloud account
4. Notifications
If you enable notifications for the Impulse Stopper feature, the App will request permission to send you local notifications. These notifications are:
- Generated entirely on your device — not sent from any server
- Used only to alert you when an Impulse Stopper timer expires
- Never used for marketing or promotional messages
You can manage or revoke notification permissions at any time in iOS Settings → Whym → Notifications.
5. Live Activities
When you start an Impulse Stopper timer of 24 hours or less, the App may display a Live Activity on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island. This feature:
- Displays only the timer text and countdown you entered
- Runs entirely on-device with no network communication
- Ends automatically when the timer expires or when you cancel it
6. Third-Party Services
Whym does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data brokers.
The App is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple may collect certain information in connection with your use of the App Store, subject to Apple's own Privacy Policy at apple.com/legal/privacy.
7. Children's Privacy
Whym is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since all data is stored locally on the user's device and we have no server-side data collection, there is no risk of inadvertent data collection from minors.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will address the issue promptly.
8. Data Security
Because all your data is stored locally on your device, its security is dependent on the security of your device. We recommend:
- Keeping your iOS software up to date
- Using a strong passcode or Face ID / Touch ID
- Being cautious about who has physical access to your device
9. Your Rights
Since all data is stored on your device, you have full control over it at all times. You can:
- Delete individual entries within the App at any time
- Delete all App data by deleting the App from your device
- Export or back up your device data using iOS's built-in tools
Because we do not store any of your data on our servers, there is no additional data to request, correct, or delete from our end.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App or applicable law. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
